Bangalore-Ernakulam Intercity Express - 02.10.2014 (Wednesday, 2-5 pm)
Today
was special.
The
Coimbatore I.T. office was abuzz with duty-doting officials revved up on the
Swatchh Shapathh pledge. The volunteers bathed in street dust and sweat swept
the racecourse road clean again and again in turn and some of them meandered
across through by-lanes deep into Vadavalli to Ramanathapuram, Maruthamalai to
Vellingiri hills in the sweeping trance. Everyone was too careful that he/she
did not even as chance to set eye on an office file cover for fear of
accidentally feeling like studying the file and getting the long eluded
brainwave on a complex legal issue. In any case, most of them were long used to
observing the files from safe distance for fear of developing similar insights.
I
now wish, I had joined them. Was afraid that my lower back would snap again.
But, I have forgotten when I last celebrated the 'Pooja' related 'Anaddhyaayam'
. Vidyaarambham is one of the greatest ideas in our tradition, reminding the
scholarly nerds that what they gulp down everyday from the books are only loads
of proper nouns - man-made noises in the eternal silence.....
In
the train, journey would have been too stuffy for me without the following 1
minute stunts. My handsome school mate of 38 years back, the Central Excise
Asst. Commissioner friend, Joe Paul Mampilly with all sincerily readied the
some of the shy chaps to volunteer for the Action. Joe, I am sure has the most
expressive eyes and the most glowing smile in the whole of the C.E. Deptt. in
India . Hi Ho !

Here are today's do-or-die volunteers :
1.
My IT colleague. Standing ta...aall on the platform, he started recounting his
own caricaturable features one-by-one, thus completely squashing the curiosity
of the young man sitting next to me, ready to watch the action on the paper.
Finally, I fell on my knees and implored the long man not to divulge one more
feature, with tears in eyes, but the damage had been brisquely done.
2.
Shreejith. Works in Telecomsector at Bangalore.
3.
Varghese, in Pharma co., Nova Nordisk, Bangalore
4.
Sanoj, 3 's colleague in arms. Had the lion's heart to allow me to sit on his
seat and the precognition that I would remain an immovable property in form and
conduct till Ernakulam, Thanks buddy.
5.
Nithya & Bhumika. Nithya was more expressive. A kid after 5/6 majors is the
change I expect during these sessions.
6.
Ashique . Works with the TN State Handloom Deptt, at Erode
7.
Jerry & Bincy. The IT couple from Seimens, Bangalore
8.
Finally the real kid, Archita (3)
SHUBHAM
