MINUTE CARICATURES IN TRAIN :

Palakkad-Ernakulam Amritha Express - 17.10.2014 (Friday, 10pm-2am)
Today
was very special- hilariously so. For having drawn a sports team in full. The
11 self-declared freaky boys of my Siddani's age represented the Palakkad Tug
of War team to tug at the State Meet at Kollam.
However,
the sight of the collective malnutrition of the team kept on entertaining and
saddening me at the same time at the definite prospect of a massive defeat in
the wait ( I just got news that the Idukki team- the Tournament winners- with
whom their first game was set with the pack of 11 mountain wolves with stone
hard calves and crushing grip pulled the unsuspecting palakkadans in one less
than average heave over to the Idukki side of the rope barely 5 seconds after
the whistle blew.)
In any case, the boys had sensed immediate defeat but looked goddamn happy. Everyone had his share of old version mobile. One by one, the boys retreated into self-imposed ignominy and silence when their battery played truant while their seasoned elder brothers who gymnastically jumped over to the upper luggage racks while the train was a minute before pulling up at the Palakkad station, enjoyed watching rare selfies received on Whatsapp, lying on their stomach. The rugged rail-lines intuitively contributed just enough gyrations to their fantasies on the move.
The
second last picture in this series is of Ebin, the team Manager.
The
last picture is of the 20 year old lanky boy I met at the palakkad station, who
accompanied 2 other boys. The stockIer boy showed me their caricatures I had
doodled in his college notebook, 4 months back in the train. Felt happy to hear
that this would be one of the most precious memories of their train travels.
That’s
all, friends....
BEST !
